During the past 30 years his major activity has been associated with the creation, implantation and increased function of human joint replacement implants. His research in this field has brought on international attention, having Dr. Buechel travel frequently for more than 500 lectures and presentations.

His focus and continued passion for improving implant function is seen in his more than 100 publications and more than 40 United States patents, resulting from his collaborative work in the field of implant design and development.
