BUECHEL-PAPPAST SHOULDER REPLACEMENT SYSTEM - TOTAL

Total Shoulder Surgical Procedure
Below is a brief description of the surgical procedure and the instruments used:

Modular Shoulder Surgical Procedure

In some cases, such as osteoporosis or erosive osteolysis, the canal diameter to proximal humeral relationship is greater or smaller than normal. Other cases may require a longer stem length to bypass a defect in the humeral shaft. In such cases, the modular elements of the system may be combined to provide an optimal proximal and distal fit.

When the modular elements are to be used, the configuration of the reamer and trial must match the modular humeral stem and extension combination as described below.

For extensions longer than 150mm a Reamer Extension is needed to produce sufficient reaming depth.

Where an Extension diameter of 11mm and smaller is used a 12mm diameter hole must be reamed proximally to the depth of the Humeral Body. To do this, assemble a TRIAL EXTENSION corresponding to that to be implanted onto the BODY REAMER. Then using the hole reamed in the shaft ream the proximal humerus to the appropriate depth.

After humeral reaming is complete assemble the selected diameter and length TRIAL EXTENSION to the MODULAR HUMERAL STEM TRIAL. Use this assembly as the Humeral Trial.

The Humeral Component is assembled by first fully inserting the Extension into the Modular Humeral Component and then inserting, and tightening the Locking Screw using the TORQUE SCREW DRIVER. The modular head is then assembled in the usual way.
